Brief History of the Department of Education

The Department of Education of Sonamukhi College started its journey since 2012 as General subject and from 2014 as Honours subject to build up a solid liberal arts foundation. The college paved the way for solid foundation by appointing a sole teacher, Asim Kumar Guin. Later on gradually as and when the Honours course started from 2014, the necessity to appoint few supportive teachers was felt. Then two more teachers joined the department. Moreover, the department is running with the assistance of  three State Aided College Teachers and is badly in need of teachers on substantive basis.

Mission:

                Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include storytelling, discussion, teaching, training and directed research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, but learners may also educate themselves.

           

            The Education programme prepares candidates for meaningful careers in the field of education. Building upon a solid liberal arts foundation, the Education programme assists candidates in developing knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to become effective and caring teachers in an ever-changing society. Candidates are prepared to become reflective, lifelong learners.

 

Vision:

               

1.      To develop an understanding of subject matter areas and to create meaningful learning experiences based on this knowledge.

 

2.     To understand the role of assessment and the use of formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate student’s learning.

 

3.     To develop instructional plans based on student’s needs, curricular goals and models, subject matter and community.

 

Objectives of the department:

               

• Teaching the fundamental subject of Education.
• Extending the Participation in activities inside or outside the campus and community services.

2.     High speed internet facilities for students and teachers.

 

 

 

Departmental best practices:-

1.      Organizing State / National level seminar.

2.     Encouraging students to participate in seminar, wall magazine, celebrate Teachers’ Day and to meet with eminent personalities in this field.

3.     Encouraging students to participate in NSS, NCC, sports and other cultural programmes.

Departmental Activities during the pandemic situation:
