History of the Department:

 

The Department of Chemistry started its journey in the year 1979, at that time only General course had been taught. After a long journey the Department introduced the Honours course in the year 2011. At present, the Department has three faculty members. The academic condition in terms of quality of faculty and learning transfer process is healthy and adequate. Since 2017-18 Academic sessions it started offering Core course (Honours), Generic Elective and Programme in Chemistry through CBCS under Bankura University. The Chemistry Department of Sonamukhi College dedicated to cater the essence  of `advancement of chemical science to the pupils coming from the families of the area of landless, marginal and small cultivators, agricultural laborers, unprivileged classes as well as other socially and economically backward communities by way of creating the scope of higher education. The Department is aspiring to cooperate effectively with other science Departments involving interdisciplinary programs for comprehensive excellence.

  7. Online LPG supply to all the working desk

Objectives:

§  Developing the scientific mind set up of the pupils and catering chemical knowledge.

§  Developing scientific personalities.

§  Understanding the interdisciplinary nature of chemistry.

§  Contributing the improvement of the public at the scientific cultural awareness.

§  Learning the laboratory skills.

Achievements:

  1. Published four text books (Snatak Rasayan (Vol –I, Vol-II, Vol-III, Vol-IV) according to new CBCS syllabus laid down by the different University of West Bengal.
  2. Two students (Soumyadip Dey and Abhijit Roy) participated in the science fair (District level) in the Academic Session 2019-20.
  3. Organized one UGC sponsored National Seminar on ‘Chemistry Today-Nanoworld to Macroworld’, 22-23 December, 2016.
  4. Organized one Webinar on Covid-19 Pandemic: Paradigm Shift towards New Normal Life, 27th June, 2020.
  5. Published more than 20 research papers in different Journal (National & International level).
  6. Organized students’ seminar in every Academic Session.

  • Socially relevant courses and activities, particularly for engagement of the students in different Industry as well as in different Private Sector.
